The rehabilitation of marine and waterfront structures is necessary to extend service life, restore or increase structural capacity, and/or address event-related damage. Proper repairs require an understanding of deterioration mechanisms, structural configuration of marine facilities, and efficient methods of marine contractor work. During the course of the workshop, participants will learn about:
- The primary types of waterfront structures (e.g. wharves, piers, and bulkheads);
- Deterioration mechanisms for marine structural materials;
- Above and underwater inspection standards and basic techniques;
- Service life evaluation;
- Structural assessment of existing structures; and
- Protection and structural repair.
Course topics will be presented through discussion of existing codes, standards, and guidelines; heavy illustration; and case study.
